Ruby Star Society's Sunbeam Inspiration

Introducing Sunbeam by Rashida Coleman Hale!

I am loving this all-warm-color collection. It reminds me both of warm summer days, and beautiful autumn sunsets. I had a lot of fun putting fabrics together for these quilt mockups, it felt like anything I did looked good with these prints, whether I was plonking the whole collection into something, or keeping it to one particular color-way or another.

My favorite prints are the tigers (somehow named "Burning Bright"?) and the dots ("Eclipse" I get). And it wouldn't be a Rashida Coleman Hale collection if we didn't have a strong female print (the shapes on the faces in "Rebel Rebel" is a really cool touch).

I don't usually use much of the white-on-white prints in a Ruby Star Collection (and indeed didn't for these mockups either), but I discovered something really cool about them a few weeks ago: that you can over-dye them and the white print stands out! We did some ice-dying with Curio's Flicker in Natural recently and it turned out INCREDIBLY. As it happens this collection has TWO white-on-white prints: In Flight in Natural and Beaming in Natural so I've tried to mockup what they might look like after a bout of ice-dying. (P.S. this is a good moment to plug our Ice Dying Class):

I am now thinking of these white-on-white prints in a whole new light!

Okay, okay - on to the quilts:

Flicker - Large Throw Sized

Flicker Quilt in Sunbeam

I love all the little suns in this Flicker Quilt from Taralee Quiltery! The all-warm-tones of this collection somehow make this quilt both chaotic and cohesive.

This quilt finishes at 75" x 75" and takes the following fabrics to recreate:

Looper - Throw Sized

Looper Quilt in Sunbeam

I've got two versions of Miss Make's Looper in Sunbeam for you, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit that this first one is inspired by an REI flyer we got in the mail this week. This quilt finishes at 60" x 60" and takes the following fabrics to recreate:

Looper Quilt in Sunbeam

Here's the second Looper. I was never really drawn to quilts with dark backgrounds until I saw some of the kits Tawnee puts together, now I've always got to try! This quilt finishes at 60" x 60" and takes the following fabrics to recreate:

Sky Cabin - Throw Sized

Sky Cabin Quilt in Sunbeam

Always love all the secondary patterns in Toad and Sew's Sky Cabin quilt pattern!

This quilt finishes at 72 x 72" and takes the following fabrics to recreate:

Cross Lake - Baby Sized

Baby Sized Cross Lake Quilt in Sunbeam

The Cross Lake quilt pattern by The Blanket Statement is a great beginner quilt. I was imagining this as a sweet little baby quilt when I was mocking it up.

This quilt finishes at 40" x 40" and takes the following fabrics to recreate:

Circe - Throw Sized

Circe Quilt in Sunbeam

I usually like to take the stripes in the Circe quilt pattern by Miss Make and use the colors in a fabric collection to make a rainbow, but playing with the all-warm-shades of Sunbeam was really fun!

This quilt finishes at 69" x 69" (nice) and takes the following fabrics to recreate

Crumb Coat - Large Throw Sized

Crumb Coat Quilt in Sunbeam

My favorite use of a layer cake is Taralee Quiltery's Crumb Coat! I used Speckled Dove in the background of this because I wanted to see what the Sunbeam prints would look like on a less-warm background. Did not disappoint!

This pattern finishes at 67" x 67" and takes the following fabrics to recreate:

Gamma - Throw Sized

Gamma Quilt in Sunbeam

I love how the 2" stripes in the Gamma Quilt from Miss Make really highlight the patterns in the prints. This would also be a great way to use a Sunbeam Jelly Roll!

This pattern finishes at 72" x 72" and takes the following fabrics to recreate:

Wyld Whirl Quilt

Wyld Whirl Quilt in Sunbeam

Last but not least we have the Wyld Whirl Quilt! A link to a digital copy of this pattern is included with all of our Fat-Quarter bundles. This is a great first quilt and a fun make!

I'm sharing a few colorways of this pattern.

This mock-up finishes at 42" x 56", but with this many Fat Quarters you could make it bigger. To recreate it you'll need:

I'm calling this one the Honey Wyld Whirl! It uses all the yellow-toned prints in the Sunbeam collection.

This mock-up finishes at 42" x 56", but with this many Fat Quarters you could make it bigger. To recreate it you'll need 1 Fat Quarter of:
