Intermediate Sewing Level 2: The Jackson Tee

Description:

Are you intimidated by sewing with knit and stretch fabrics and you’re not sure where to being?

Join us for an introduction to knits class and make your own Helen’s Closet Jackson Tee! Students will learn a variety of skills and techniques needed to sew knit fabric on a regular sewing machine. No serger necessary!

This class will cover the basics including how and why knits stretch, calculating stretch percentage, determining the right amount of ease for your tee, how to sew the fabric, unique tool considerations, and options for hemming.

Jaynie is ready to answer any questions you may have about working with knits, de-mystify the process of construction, and help you achieve a basic tee that’s uniquely you.

Class Duration:
3 hours + 1 hour of independent work time (optional)

Students Bring: You will prepare your pattern and cut out all of your pieces prior to arriving at class. About a week before class we will email you the pattern and video that covers how to prep your material and cut out your pattern. You will only need to bring your pattern pieces, pattern, scrap material, and coodinating thread. We will supply all the needed tools and sewing machines. (you are welcome to bring your own machine if you prefer.)

Needed Materials: Knit fabric for your garment. Check out our selection of knits here.

You will leave with: The knowledge and confidence to work with knit fabrics! We'll cover direction of greatest stretch, how to dial in your knit stitch, how to finish knit seams w/out a serger, how to attach a neck band, and how to make fit adjustments
