Virtual Beginner Garment Making - The Envelope Dress

Description: In our beginner garment making class via Zoom we will walk you through the process of making your own Envelope dress! This pattern by Cris Wood Sews is size inclusive and leaves almost zero waste! We’ll go over reading patterns, how to finish seams without a serger, and a few tips for getting a great fit.

Class Duration:
 3.5 hours

Students Bring: Students will work from home using their home machine and notions (iron, pins, scissors, measuring tape, & elmer's white glue). Students will need to purchase the PDF pattern directly from Cris Woods here.

Fabric Required: You will need 1.75 yds for sizes up to 14. For larger sizes to determine your needed yardage take your hip measurement and add 16” this equals the total length of fabric that you need. Lightweight wovens like linen and cotton work best for this pattern. For fabric we recommend a lightweight woven like Warp and WeftDouble Gauze, or Viscose. Fabric needs to be a woven and ideally not see through as the dress does not have any lining. You'll also need coordinating thread.

Skill Level: Confident Beginner Garment Sewist/Intermediate Sewist

Skill Details: Some prior sewing experience such as our sewing 101 course and 5 or so independent sewing projects. Students should be able to maintain a consistent seam allowance, understand the right side vs wrong side of fabric, and overall feel comfortable operating a sewing machine.

Age Range: 18+
