Description:

The Ilford Jacket is a great place to start on your garment sewing journey! The Ilford Jacket is a versatile style that’s modular design makes for a pattern that is simple, yet impactful. It can be customized a million different ways and really is a “choose your own adventure” type of pattern that incorporates your design sense into the project!

It features drop shoulders and comes with two sleeve options: a placket sleeve with cuff, and an easy to sew boxy sleeve for a more relaxed vibe. We will be making the boxy sleeve option. It also includes two lengths as well as a bunch of pocket templates that you can mix and match. The possibilities are endless! You can wear the Ilford as a jacket or shirt depending on the fabric you use.  This is a fun, skill building pattern that you will want to make/wear again and again! This pattern is for everyone and looks great on all gender expressions!

prior to class we'll send you a video guide with instructions of how to:

  • Measure yourself to determine your size

  • Prep your fabric and pattern

  • Cut your pieces and transfer markings

  • Finish Raw Edges
  • Apply Interfacing

You'll need to order or buy fabric at least 1 week prior to class to allow time for washing and other prep. You'll arrive at class in the store with your pieces already cut out, edges finished, and interfacing applied.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Create and sew on a collar

  • Create and sew a button placket

  • Attach a drop sleeve

  • Pocket placement and attachment

  • Hemming and finishing including how to make button holes

  • How to work from a printed pattern

At the end of class you’ll have a completed jacket body with finished collar and button placket. We’ll demonstrate how to make button holes. Depending on the pace you work at you may need to finish the button holes, buttons, and jacket hem on your own. There will be an hour after class that you can stay to continue working on your project, this hour will not include an instructor.
