Description:

This class is for beginner sewists who want to get started with garment sewing and need a place to start with all the techniques they need to learn. The Sam Apron is a perfect stepping stone into garment making, with minimal fitting required. This pattern is versatile for all gender expressions and can be made to fit teens or adults. This is a fun, skill-building pattern that you will enjoy wearing, and it makes a great gift for loved ones!

The beauty of an apron is that the fit is very forgiving and totally wearable without any fit adjustments. You won’t need to do a muslin or toile for this one! We’ll make View B using webbing for the straps to keep it simple and save some sewing time.

You’ll receive information for downloading the Sam Apron pattern instructions, as well as a video guide for:

  • Choosing a size
  • Prepping your fabric and pattern
  • Cutting your pieces and transferring markings
  • Preparing your single-fold bias tape

Please come to class with your cut out pattern pieces, scrap fabric, notions, and instruction booklet.

You'll need to order or buy fabric at least 1 week prior to class to allow time for washing and other prep. You'll arrive at class in the store with your pieces already cut out, edges finished, and interfacing applied.

In this course you will get hands-on experience with:

  • How to work from a printed pattern
  • Sewing curves
  • Grading seams
  • Patch pocket placement and attachment
  • Hemming and finishing, including bias facing
  • Understitching and topstitching
At the end of class, you’ll leave with a complete or nearly-complete apron ready for wearing or gifting!
