Beginner Garment Making - Wilder Gown

Description:

Want to make your own clothes but feeling a little intimidated? The Wilder Gown from Friday Pattern Company is the perfect place to start!

The Wilder Gown is a raglan sleeve dress/top that is pulled in and tied at the neckline. It can be made as a long two tiered dress, a single tier short dress, or a top! (In this class we'll go over how to make the dress) The pattern also includes options to make it short or long sleeved. The Wilder is as comfortable as it is cute and it's modular design lends itself well to customization. You'll want to make this pattern again and again.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Measure yourself to determine your size

  • Prep your fabric and pattern

  • Cut your pieces and transfer markings

You'll cut your pieces out on your own time before class. Upon registration we will send you our cutting guide video with instructions to do all of the above

  • Understand pattern terminology and directions
  • Different options for seam finishes
  • How to create a turned tube for the tie
  • How to assemble the bodice
  • How to gather one tier of the skirt (you'll finish the last tier and hem after class or at home)

Class Duration: 4 hours + 1 hour of optional free sewing time after class

Students Bring: Your cut out pattern pieces, thread, the printed pattern, your scrap fabric (you will receive an instructional video on how to cut out your pieces)

Materials Required: For fabric we recommend a lightweight woven like Warp and WeftDouble Gauze, or Viscose. Fabric needs to be a woven and ideally not see through as the dress does not have any lining. You'll also need coordinating thread.

Materials Including with Registration: Printed copy of the Wilder Gown (available for pick up at the store upon registration. We can also mail it to you for $5). Use of all needed tools including sewing machine, seam ripper, iron, etc

You will leave with: A mostly completed Wilder Gown and the knowledge and confidence to continue garment sewing
