Virtual T-Shirt Quilt Class

Join us for a 5 week T-Shirt quilt course! This class will be structured a little differently than our other workshops. For this class we'll be breaking down 1 step each week and you'll complete that step on your own before class the next week.

You will need a sewing machine and basic sewing skills. You should be comfortable operating your machine and troubleshooting when things go wrong.

Instruction will focus mostly on the specific techniques needed to make a t-shirt quilt, vs sewing basics. Each meeting will be 1hr long, the instructor will demonstrate and there will be time for questions at the end. Classes will be recorded and sent to you after incase you miss a session.

We'll meet 1 x per week via zoom on Thursdays from 6-7pm PST

2/23 Week 1: Quilt math! We'll measure all of our shirts and create a layout with sashing. We'll also cut our T-shirts up and apply interfacing

3/2 Week 2: We'll cut our shirts to size and cut our sashing fabric

3/9 Week 3: We'll piece together our quilt top

3/16 Week 4: We'll baste and quilt our quilts

3/23 Week 5: We'll attach binding and finish our quilts!

This class is instruction only and does not include any supplies.

What you'll need for this class:

  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Rotary cutter, mat, and ruler  (you'll need a ruler at least 18" long, a large square ruler is great but not necessary)
  • Interfacing  We like this one
  • Pressing cloth (a kitchen towel works great)
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Sashing fabric to go between your t-shirt squares (any quilting cotton)
Batting, backing, and binding material (again quilting fabric or you could use a linen or chambray!)
  • Iron + Ironing board
  • Pins or wonder clips
  • Scissors
  • 15-20 T-shirts

The size of your quilt is up to you! if this is your first time making a quilt I wouldn't recommend making anything larger than a throw.

You'll need 6-10 yards of interfacing depending on how many t-shirts you have and what size they'll be cut down to. Interfacing is 20" wide and sold by the yard. Please let us know if you need help calculating interfacing needs.

You'll need 1-2 yards of sashing fabric again depending on how large you want your sashing strips to be and how large you want your overall quilt to be. We will go over how to calculate your sashing needs during the first session.

Classes will be recorded so if you miss it you'll be able to watch it later. There will be no refunds for no shows or late arrivals.
